In ASB, we are so passionate about service and bringing education and a awareness to pressing social issues, and this year we have amped up our system. Our service trips have started off with a bang so far, but as a staff we wanted to make sure our trip destinations weren't the only communities being served. Each month, ASB has begun to replace one of our staff meetings by serving at an Auburn local organization.
So far we have served at our local RIF Warehouse. RIF, Reading is Fundamental, strives to inspire children to read. If distributes books to low-income families, ensuring that all homes have books for children to read, helping them improve their reading abilities and providing building blocks to a better future. In the US, 16 million children are living in poverty, and 2/3 of those 16 million do not have a book to call their own.
Education and youth development, an issue near to our hearts, is a major issue in the US, which is why we love serving at RIF. In the months to come, we look forward to other service opportunities in our local community as well. We want to build the best community we can, but we can't do it alone! So we are calling on you!
We are ready to launch our volunteering movement, Destination Serve. We believe service is one priority that we should all keep close at heart, and with your help, we know we can lead more and more people to join into the volunteering action. To help us get to this destination of a "service community" we have to show how much fun volunteering can be!
To do this, any time you, your friends, your family, organization, etc do any service project, snap a photo and tag us on Instagram! We want to see all the good you are doing and we want to pass it along, share it, and applaud all of your hard work! Together, we know that we can make Auburn (and other communities too!) that best place to live for all!
